Our workshops and courses were set up in 2016 By SI-Fu Della O'Sullivan - who is a Martial Arts expert, Author, and Survivor.
F.L.A.G is a comprehensive package on all things women empowerment and self-protection training.
We aim to cover all areas:
• theory on red flags, and pointers to see ahead of situations
• Chi-Kung - (Helps regulate breathing, regulate the nervous system, & reduces anxiety)
• Mentality, psychology, assessing a threat, setting boundaries (verbally and physically).
• training - everything that is taught has to be simple, direct, effective and require little or no force, the techniques taught are so that you can use perpetrator force against them.
• supporting a local domestic violence charity (Bede House)

Della spent 18 years training and teaching and became one of the highest-ranking females in her discipline. 2016 she was interviewed on BBC about her pending master grade where she told her reason for outsourcing martial arts, to begin with,and told of her history of abuse, and stalking.
From that interview - women across the country contacted Della to ask if she has classes for women only, and so the next month Della set up Fight Like A Girl and ran her first workshop. The workshop was packed with women, some of whom had traveled across the country to be there.
Della soon put together a team and decided to make these workshops and courses more regular.
Every workshop gives key tips on relationship red flags, and the F.L.A.G team supports their charity with every event.
The Aim of F.L.A.G
To allow a safe space for all women to attend. Like Della, many have expressed feeling intimidated at the thought of signing up for a regular martial arts Class, and many do not know if they are ready to commit to regular training, so the workshops are an introduction to further training and allow all women to feel comfortable to just walk in the door.
WORKSHOPS:
Our workshops are the introduction & stepping stone into the world of self-defense. Participants will see how simple, intelligent, and practical the approach and techniques are. They will learn some important tips on increasing awareness, setting boundaries, and assessing a threat - and they will practice and be tested on the practical moves.
Workshops Cover:
- controlling attackers (grabs, pins, holds, hair, pulls & chokes)
- basics of self-defense from the ground
- basics of strike defence - including an introduction to automatic reflex training
COURSES: (there are 3 volumes)
Volume 1 will cover: (available in 3 or 6-week courses)
Every week the course will add more strikes and practice of strikes and reflex training & 10 minutes of practice on previous weeks' material freely for 30 minutes as well as focus on a new topic.
Each class will begin with chi-kung and end with a grounding meditation.
Week 1 :
- STRIKE DEFENCE & HOW TO DEFELCT PHYSICAL TOUCH – most common strikes – addressing many different variations and scenarios. (pushes, slaps, punches, face touching, arms around the waist, & any unwanted physical advances)
- ANTI GRABS (arms and body) (2 levels of arm)– addressing many different variations and scenarios
Week 2:
- ANTI GRABS – HAIR & CHOKES – addressing many different scenarios and variations
- DEFENCE FROM FLOOR (LEVEL 1 program) – attacker standing you are on the floor, attacker advancing trying to kick, pull, get between legs, strike with hands from a close position, how to prevent /get up/defend/escape safely.
Week 3 - Test all topics in scenario-based drills.
Every class will aim to develop reflexes and work on strikes as well as the new group of knowledge.
